Anastasia's on the Sea

Hotel, Restaurant, Bar & Marine Park

Watersports

Whether staying at Anastasia's on the Sea or elsewhere on Corn Island, we offer a variety of activities for the adventurous traveler.  Our location is the best spot on the island for snorkeling the extraordinary coral reef that encircles the north end of the island.  We also have a specially designed marine park that allows guests to navigate their way around the coral formations and buoys show where all the best spots are located, including a sunken steam ship.  Ocean kayaking, sport fishing, fly fishing, and spear fishing are also available.  And if you want the photo opportunity of a lifetime and you aren't too scared of heights, then go up for a personal tour of the island or venture to the little island in our brand new ultra-light float plane.  If that's still not enough, we can also arrange knee-boarding or tubing behind one of our boats.

Float Plane Tours:
We offer a rare opportunity to soar like a bird and see the island from the sky.  Our brand new ultra-light float plane is your ticket to exhilaration and photos of a lifetime.  Pilot Skip has flown planes longer that he has been driving a car.  With thirty years of experience as a pilot, he knows a thing or two about flying and always places safety first.  A typical 30-minute tour costs about $40 dollars.

Kayak Rentals:
Try kayaking inside or outside the coral reef system that is just a few yards in front of Anastasia's restaurant.  We have single person and two person ocean kayaks available.  And be sure to ask about kayak tour opportunities.  Single seater kayaks rent for about $3 per hour, $9 for half day, and $14 for a full day.  Two seater kayaks rent for $4 per hour, $12 per half day, and $17 per full day.

Snorkeling:
Thirty meters in front of the restaurant is a virgin coral reef system thriving with fish and other marine life.  Explore this island treasure as you navigate through our marine park, specially designed for snorkeling.  We also have snorkel tours led by local islanders that know where to find the rare species, such as spotted eagle rays, tarpon, turtles, grouper, nurse sharks, and more.  A rental includes a mask, snorkel, and fins.  All sizes available.  Snorkel rental prices are as follows: $3 per hour; $6 per half day; $10 per full day.

Spear Fishing:

Spear fishing is another activity that can really get your adrenaline flowing.  We have Hawaiian sling-style spear guns available to rent for those who want to shoot their own dinner.  Here are administrator Oliver shows off a nice Parot fish and Snapper to be used in a "Run-Down."  A "Run-Down" is a traditional favorite dish of the island that consists of a variety of vegetables and seafood stewed for hours over a broth made from coconut milk.  You should definately try this dish while visiting the Corn Islands.  But beware, the local folk lore has it that if you eat the fish they call "Old Wife" (triggerfish) then you are destined to return to the island and live out your days, which isn't such a bad thing.  Rent a spear gun for $10 per hour.

Sport Fishing:
We offer fully guided fishing trips with all bait and tackle included. Trips are available bottom fishing, nearshore trolling/live bait fishing, offshore trolling, and whatever else it is that you want to do. We have top-notch rod and reels made by Penn, Shimano, and Outerbanks Outfitters. We have a fully equipped offshore fishing panga and a flats boat. Our Captain is US Coastguard certified and has many years of experience and local knowledge.  For more information, go to the Sport Fishing page.

Fly Fishing:
One of Corn Islands hidden secrets is that it holds large numbers of bonefish.  With expansive flats filled with patches of sand and turtle grass, bonefishing is truly world class.  We offer guided trips wading, via boat, or equipment rentals.  We can also arrange a trip to the Pearl Cays.  The Pearl Cays are 18 tiny islands located about 20 miles to the west and give anglers the unique opportunity to catch bonefish, permit, and tarpon all at the same time.  For more information, go to the Fly Fishing page.
